This is the traditional matching 36 points or gunas based system built on the moon’s Nakshatra positions in horoscopes of both individuals being matched. This system is based on allotting points to 8 Doshas (attributes) in the matching charts which are essential ingredients for a successful marriage or relationship. We start from the most important down to the least:

1. NADI: Value 8 gunas – Nadi literally means a Rope or Surpentine Line to describe the 3 rows of the 3 types of Nadi Doshas ie Aadya (Vata), Madhya (Pitta) and Antya (Kapha). Nadi dosha’s presence in the matching can potentially destroy the very fundamental purpose of marriage ie to make a family and have progeny. There can also be paucity of health, wealth & happiness from children. At its mildest it can lead to separation (circumstantial, geographical or intentional) & its worst, it has the capacity to destroy the relationship leading to natural separation or even death of one. At the nastiest level it can lead to mental estrangement which can be result in actual destruction of one other.

2. BHAKUT: Value 7 gunas – this shows the emotional and mental attachment or fondness towards each other.

3. GANA: Value 6 gunas – from this guna we can assess the innate nature, behaviour, dealings and aggression of the individuals. Birth stars (Nakshatras) are divided into three categories- Deva (God, indicating Satwa Guna), Manava (Human, indicating Rajo Guna) and Rakshasa (Demon, indicating Tamo Guna).

4. GRAHAMAITRI: Value 5 gunas – If Lords of the Moon Nakshatras are Natural friends, it leads to development of mutual affection to one another.

5. YONI: Value 4 gunas – Yoni measures the physical attraction, intimacy & even the increasing attachment with advancing age.

6. TARA: Value 3 gunas – From Tara one can see the luck, success, prosperity and happiness of the couple.

7. VASYA: Value 2 gunas – this literally means power to control the other. It also relates to the mutual wisdom in understanding each other’s point of views. Even when they have different point of view they can reconcile their differences.

8. VARNA: Value 1 guna – this relates to the working style & domestic management of the individuals.
